The Lake - General information
Location
Canonto Lake is located in North Frontenac Township, Ontario, Canada. The water level
is controlled by a dam, rebuilt by the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority in 1964,
at the hamlet of Canonto. Water enters the lake from Palmerston Lake, itself a dam
controlled lake, and several small streams. Canonto Lake's perimeter is roughly 17.4 km
with a maximum depth of 21.4 metres and a mean depth of 3.8 metres. Common fish found in
the lake are Walleye, White Sucker, Northern Pike, Brown Bullhead, Smallmouth Bass,
Rock Bass, Lake Herring and Sunfish.
The nearest village to Canonto Lake is Ompah. A few kilometers further westwards is
Plevna where groceries, liquor/beer, hardware, gasoline, propane and postal services
are available.
